Illuminated Thread Technology

The thread
that glows.

SewGlo™ is electroluminescent thread — a cold light source you sew directly into fabric with a standard sewing machine. No rigid components. No added weight. No electronics on the run. Just light, built into the textile itself.

Standard lighting has no place in a garment. SewGlo™ does. It's not a retrofit, not a clip-on, not a battery pack sewn into a pocket. It's light engineered as thread — manufacturable, washable, and built for the way clothing is actually made.

How It Works
Electroluminescence,
at the thread level.

Electroluminescence is the emission of light from a phosphor material when excited by an alternating electrical current. SewGlo™ applies this at the thread scale — embedding the phosphor layer within a flexible, sewable filament that integrates directly into textile manufacturing processes.

01
The Core

A conductive copper core carries the alternating current that drives the light emission. It's thin, flexible, and engineered to survive the mechanical stress of sewing machine needles and fabric movement.

02
The Phosphor Layer

A zinc sulfide phosphor coating surrounds the core. When excited by AC current, the phosphor emits a continuous, even glow — no hotspots, no pixel separation, no LEDs to fail. The light is distributed along the entire length of the thread.

03
The Outer Jacket

A protective polymer jacket makes the thread machine-sewable and fabric-safe. It protects the phosphor layer through needle penetration and movement, while maintaining flexibility for drape and comfort.

Use Cases
Where SewGlo™ is being used.
SewGlo in costume and cosplay
Costume & Cosplay

Embroidered glow lines, illuminated panels, and light-up accents integrated directly into costume construction. No battery packs stuffed in hidden pockets.

SewGlo in fashion
Fashion & Apparel

Runway and editorial illuminated apparel where aesthetics and construction quality are non-negotiable. SewGlo™ keeps the garment as the focus, not the hardware.

SewGlo in Safety & Workwear
Safety & Workwear

High-visibility illumination sewn directly into vests, jackets, and uniforms. Active light source — not reflective — for environments where passive reflectivity isn't enough.

SewGlo in wearable technology
Wearable Technology

E-textile developers and smart apparel manufacturers use SewGlo™ as the illumination layer in integrated systems — paired with conductive threads, sensors, and microcontrollers.

Part of a Larger Family
SewGlo™ is one of four specialty
lighting platforms from Ellumiglow.

If your project needs more than illuminated thread — flexible EL profiles, architectural LED, or fiber optic cable — the full product line lives at Ellumiglow.com. One source for lighting technology that standard suppliers don't carry.
